Update On WWE’s Third Party Policy
There has been an update from WWE on their third party policy. The company has received alot of backlash from the main stream media due to their challenge on third party activities. It turns out that WWE’s contract specifically states that talent are not able to use their stage names, and the talent was being reminded of this.
Dave Meltzer reported the following in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter:
“There was a lot of bitterness from those feeling strung along. It was noted to us that people were told they would be brought back, but then the date of being brought back kept moving another month.”
When the policy became main stream news, it was believed that WWE was pushing to ban all talent from using social media. The story still isn’t that clear as it appears that WWE still want talent to be on YouTube and Twitter. The company want them using social media in order to promote themselves and WWE, but they must use their own real names to do so.
This is apparently something that Vince McMahon was already looking into this before the pandemic broke. Once the pandemic broke, WWE had to shift focus, but after a few recent incidents on social media platforms, Vince and WWE needed to make changes.
