WWE NXT Gauntlet Eliminator Match Saw Change Due To Coronavirus Outbreak
As reported earlier, NXT suffered a COVID-19 outbreak. The belief is that a coach in the Performance Center was sick and spread it to others.
A few matches were changed due to the outbreak, which included the main event of this week’s NXT as well.
During the Living The Gimmick podcast, Jon Alba revealed that the company changed the Gauntlet Eliminator match due to COVID-19.
“Classes were indefinitely postponed if you remember classes were just starting again and they were starting to pick them back up. Those were postponed and what I can tell you is that this had a tangible effect on creative in the sense of the gauntlet for the championship that they will be running. I don’t know about the women. It might have for the women. I don’t know, I can’t confirm nor deny that, but I can tell you for the Gauntlet Eliminator it did.”
It was noted this is why fans saw “uncustomary” names in the main event match. Kyle O’Reilly won the match, so he will be challenging Finn Balor for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver on October 4th.
