Superstars “Livid” Over WWE Taking Control Of Their Twitch Accounts
Word broke on Thursday this week that WWE will be seizing control of the Twitch accounts of their superstars. Those in question will now only receive a percentage of what they would have before from the third-party business and it will count towards their downside guarantees.
According to a report from the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, those superstars are said to be “livid” at the decision but have chosen against speaking up for now. The reason for their outrage, understandably, is because it will be counting against their downside guarantees and that they will now essentially be earning nothing from Twitch.
It was noted that the roster had believed WWE were backing off from their original approach to third-party platforms after presidential candidate Andrew Yang stated that if the Democratic party win the upcoming election he would use his influence to investigate and change WWE talent from being labeled as independent contractors.
One talent told Meltzer the following:
“This is amazing because it’s really going to open up the independent contractor issue. All these smart attorneys surrounding Vince and this is the battle he wants?”
