WWE To Take Over Superstars Twitch Accounts In Four Weeks
WWE are looking to assume control over their talents’ Twitch accounts in the next four weeks. According to a new report produced by Wrestlinginc.com, WWE are pressing ahead with the idea to closely monitor and control the talents’ use of third-party platforms.
Vince McMahon sent all of his talent an email earlier this week reminding them once again, that they have until Friday to get rid of unauthorised ties with third-party platforms. Going forward WWE will own the accounts and talent will receive a percentage of revenue, which will also count against their downside guarantees.
Initially it appeared WWE were banning all use of third-party platforms, however they would later clarify their stance saying that talent could still operate their Twitch and YouTube accounts, but they would need to use their real names. That didn’t go over well with many people, including Presidential candidate Andrew Yang, who argued that if WWE are going to make moves like this, they cannot class their talent as ‘independent contractors’.
As of this writing WWE have not commented on these new reports.
This is certainly a very controversial subject, some say they can see why WWE would need to have more control over what their talents say and do online, so they can protect their brand, others say this is just another example of Vince McMahon acting unreasonably. What do you think?
