Jedrzejczyk vs Zhang II- The Rematch that needs to happen
March 7th, 2020. A date which is etched in history. For on this day one of the greatest, maybe even the greatest women’s mixed martial arts fight took place. A fight of the year candidate for sure, as strawweight champion Weili Zhang defeated former champion and one of the greats, Joanna Jedrzejczyk.
In a gruelling slugfest, both women were bloodied up and neither woman gave up. Both fighting to the end of five hard-hitting, fast paced rounds and the winner was decided by the slimmest of margins that resulted in a split decision from the judges.
This fight was so good that the prospect of a second fight is mouth-watering for fans and Dana White alike. If Zhang wins again, she will be revered even more highly than she already is. If Jedrzejczyk wins, not only does she become champion again but also the fans will call for the rubber match, a third fight. Money for the UFC and a potentially legendary feud to follow their legendary fight in March.
It may be too late to use this match as the main event of UFC 255 but never say never in the UFC, however it is more likely to take place in 2021.
As the idea of crowds returning seems unlikely for the foreseeable future and travel restrictions are still active, if this rematch were to take place it would be safe to assume that it would take place in Abu Dhabi on Fight Island, as this would be classed as an international fight.
Who do you think would win the rematch?
