WWE Wanted Drew McIntyre vs Tyson Fury To Happen This Year
WWE Champion Drew McIntyre and top boxing star Tyson Fury have made it known that they want to wrestle each other inside of the squared circle.
The two stars have been teasing a match for several months during their twitter ‘beef’ along with World Boxing Champion Fury even going to Drew’s home country of Scotland, to ‘Call out’ the WWE Champion. Up to this point, it hasn’t happened, but it turns out that there were plans to do a match.
Inside The Ropes reported today that WWE wanted to have the two stars wrestle for the WWE Title in the main event of a UK pay-per-view this year.
There’s no word yet on if WWE would’ve created a new PPV theme for this show in the UK, which hasn’t hosted a major pay-per-view since the 1992 SummerSlam, or if WWE would’ve moved an existing event to the country.
It was stated that WWE talked to both men about the idea. At the time, WWE wanted to capitalise on McIntyre becoming the first-ever British world champion in the company after he won it at WrestleMania 36. There’s also interest from the UK fans to host another big PPV show.
Once the COVID-19 pandemic took over the world in March, fans haven’t been allowed to attend many sporting events although restrictions are now being lifted in some parts of the world including a few states in America.
