Wade Barrett Talks Falling Out Of Love With Wrestling, Possibility Of In Ring Return
NXT commentator and former WWE wrestler Stu Bennett, better known around the wrestling world as Wade Barrett, was recently on the Gorilla Position Podcast prior to NXT Takeover 31 where talked about his career path and all things wrestling.
Barrett spoke about being burned out and falling out of love with the wrestling business.
I’ve been very open about the fact that I needed to get away from there, that’s I was indeed burned out . I had been on the road, I had been with WWE at that point, including the developmental system for about 9 years. The schedule I was on at that point was crazy. I wasn’t enjoying the character stuff I was doing, I wasn’t enjoying the storylines and my personal life at that point to was in a real mess too. So I needed to go away and work on some stuff outside of wrestling and really get away from the business. I was burned out to the point that I didn’t want to turn the tv on and watch wrestling. I didn’t want to talk in interviews about wrestling, I just wanted to go away and do anything other than wrestling.
He also spoke about the possibility of a In-Ring Return.
I have never retired from the ring, My focus at the moment is 100% on broadcasting, working with NXT, and telling stories verbally. I will tell you there is some gas left in the tank. That’s not to say 100% I will be back in the ring, maybe I never will, but if the right opportunity presents itself at the right time, I could see something happening.
Wade Barrett has not been in a WWE ring since 2016, last appearing in a tag match with the League Of Nations. Although, still to this day, his debut and Nexus angle is still thrown around as one of the greatest “what could have been” factions. It would be interesting to see what he’s got left to give in the ring.
