Lana has been booked quite brutally over the last few weeks. Her current losing streak continued with defeats against The Riott Squad, Shayna Baszler & Nia Jax and Mandy Rose & Dana Brooke. She had no time to rest after the matches though, as she has been put through the announcers’ table four weeks in a row.
Despite this, and quite unexpectedly, Lana won the Number One Contendership Battle Royal by eliminating her former tag team partner Natalya on last week’s Raw and she is scheduled to go one on one with Asuka tonight.
Dave Meltzer noted in a recent Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE believes Lana turned babyface with her battle royal win as she was able to overcome everything she has been through over the past few weeks and still emerge victorious. One company official even described her as a “massive babyface.”
Bobby Lashley’s former wife has certainly been portraying herself as a babyface on social media during the build to her title shot, and she even channelled Rocky Balboa and consumed raw eggs in preparation for the match.
Lana has struggled in recent months, especially with her real life husband Miro being with AEW. WWE like a swerve but Lana defeating Auska is surely one swerve too far.
