WWE Seemingly Forced Talent to Cease Twitch Streams With Immediate Effect
For weeks, WWE has been reportedly clamping down on contracted talents’ ability to make money on third party services like Twitch and Cameo. Now, it seems, the day has come where streams have come to an end.
In separate posts today, AJ Styles and Mia Yim have confirmed they will not be streaming on their channels for the immediate future, and the news may have taken them by surprise by just how quick the mandate came. At the time of Yim tweeting the cancellation of her stream, she had been planning on streaming with NXT Superstar Jessamyn Duke tomorrow. Meanwhile, AJ Styles confirmed WWE was responsible for “upcoming changes that involve streaming” via Discord.
Fans have reacted negatively to this news and the new policy has even drawn the attention of former Democratic Presidential Candidate Andrew Yang, referring to the WWE as “fucking greedy” for this move given the talent is classified as independent contractors. The new policy may have even made some of the current contracted talent look into labor laws, as recently tweeted by Paige. The retired superstar has recently put a lot of time onto Twitch and created quite the following on her channel.
