WWE Superstars Allegedly Reach Out to Andrew Yang Over Twitch Ban
The big talk over the last couple of days is how WWE finally enforced their third party ban on their contracted talent. AJ Styles, Paige, and others were forced to cancel upcoming Twitch streams and seem to be signing off of the platform for the immediate future.
The backlash from the talent has been vocal, with Paige giving an emotional speech on Twitch about what the site means to her and how she’s been speaking with a lawyer about unionization. There was even a meeting with Vince McMahon that seemed to do little to change his mind.
Now, it seems to be getting more serious. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentioned several WWE Superstars reached out to Andrew Yang about this. It is currently unclear who has spoken with him, but it’s notable considering the timing.
“Everyone is getting off Twitch. There’s a lot of unhappiness. I don’t know how many are talking to Andrew Yang. I know that there are several people talking to Andrew Yang and it’s a very interesting thing because, you know the election is coming. From a Vince standpoint his timing for making this move is terrible.”
There has been many whispers about Yang being discussed as Secretary of Labor in Biden’s Cabinet if he wins the election, and Yang has been a vocal opponent to the Twitch and Cameo ban for WWE Superstars. He has even gone as far to say he would look into it if named Secretary of Labor, which could be even more interesting given the McMahon’s ties to Donald Trump. Linda McMahon is a chairperson of a Super PAC that has raised money and campaigned for Trump, and she has recently come under scrutiny for allegedly re-hiring a sex offender in the 80s.
The WWE is rumored to be working on an alternative for their talent to stream on, but that has still done little to make this matter settled. This Tuesday’s election could be a big turning point in the situation involving the edict, as a Biden win could force Vince to re-examine his stance since he will no longer have a political ally in the form of the President of the United States.
