One WWE Superstar noticably absent from Friday Night’s Smackdown was Big E. It had been reported that the WWE had big plans for the New Day member, including a huge push. In fact, there are some who believe he might win the Royal Rumble, though that isn’t confirmed.
The WWE script process can be arduous, and nothing makes it on the show without the final say of Vince McMahon. This can lead to someone not being on the show if nothing is pitched for them or if nothing is approved, and this is the case of what happened to Big E this week on SmackDown.
Ringside News first reported that Big E was absent from Friday’s show simply because the Chairman just didn’t ask about him. Their source went on to say “since [McMahon] didn’t ask about them, no one pitched anything.”
This doesn’t mean Big E’s push has come to a close. A week off the show shouldn’t be cause for alarm, but red flags could be raised if Big E misses multiple weeks. With Big E separated from his fellow New Day members, we’ll have to wait until next week to see what the next chapter is in his singles run.
