WWE Abandons Trademark For Cody Rhodes

Since Cody Rhodes’ release from WWE, the company has owned the trademark on his name. This has been the reason “The American Nightmare” has gone simply by his first name and worked around it thanks to his wife as they have been introduced as “Cody and Brandi Rhodes.” Today, a big victory for the AEW Executive Vice President has happened in regards to his name.

According to a report by Heel By Nature, WWE has canceled their trademark on the name Cody Rhodes on November 2nd, which could in theory allow Cody to finally register a trademark for the name Cody Rhodes. Cody has been battling WWE over many trademarks pertaining to intellectual property his father created such as Bash at the Beach, The Match Beyond, and others. This could be a big victory for Cody and could lead to him regaining his last name.

The trademark on his name initially expired back in April and Cody tried to register his name then, but the company filed an extension citing the COVID-19 pandemic as a delay in their filing as they attempted to renew the trademark. Now, it seems Cody Rhodes has a clear path to having a surname once again.
