WWE Backstage Talk On 2020 Election

The US election has had a fair bit of crossover into the world of professional wrestling.

Linda McMahon is a chairperson on a Super PAC that worked to help re-elect Donald Trump, and it was revealed that The Undertaker also donated to his campaign. Meanwhile WWE legend Mick Foley gave an impassioned plea for people to consider certain things about the Trump campaign before voting, while former candidate Andrew Yang has had his name pop up in several discussions involving the WWE and their third party ban.

Ringside News reported that the election was indeed a topic of discussion backstage at SmackDown this week, and one person remarked to them that “the rest of the world is talking about it, aren’t they?”

Joe Biden has been declared the projected winner, and on multiple occasions it’s been suggested that Andrew Yang could be involved in Biden’s cabinet in some capacity. A tenured WWE employee said “Andrew Yang is going to give Vince McMahon a lot of headaches.”

Yang has been especially vocal from the perspective of wanting to help with their situation as being classified as independent contractors, though the WWE restricts their ability to work with parties outside the company. While no one knows how much focus they will actually receive, they are certainly on Yang’s radar and McMahon may end up with less breathing room than he had under the Trump administration.

The topic was not banned from the locker room, and there were no arguments and no one developed any heat over their opinion.
