RoH Talent Originally Scheduled For Best of Super Juniors

New Japan Best of the Super Juniors tournament is on the horizon and it features many names at the top of the New Japan junior heavyweight ladder while their Super J-Cup features top foreign talent for them. One name noticably absent from the tournaments is CMLL and RoH’s Dragon Lee.

The popular luchador is known for a major rivalry with Hiromu Takahashi and is a former IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion but was omitted from both tournaments. Voices of Wrestling said on their podcast that Lee was originally scheduled for the tournament and actually flew to Japan to begin quarantining for the event, only to fly back and not be announced for the tournament.

Wrestling Observer did report that Ring of Honor wanted to bring Lee and fellow CMLL star (and ROH World Champion) Rush to their December tapings, though this would have created a schedule conflict for Dragon Lee. The tournament ends December 11th and ROH has their tapings scheduled for December 11th and 12th.

Lee and Takahashi matches have been some of the more popular matches among fans of New Japan the last few years, so it’s disappointing to see him miss the tournament, but Lee is the ROH Television Champion, so it’s likely he missed because he has an obligation to Ring of Honor as one of their champions. However, Lee’s contract expires on December 1st according to the Observer, so he might be obligated to come and drop the title during these tapings. Obviously, this is speculation but we should hopefully have clarity soon enough.
