AEW Prepares Trio Of Games For Release
Today, AEW held a virtual event to announce their upcoming slate of games under the AEW Games umbrella. After revealing during the post-Full Gear media scrum that they had multiple games in development, they finally revealed what they had in store for gaming fans in the near future.
The event was hosted by Kenny Omega with appearances from Aubrey Edwards, Britt Baker, and Cody Rhodes, all very much lampooning Steve Jobs and the virtual Apple events.
The first game revealed was their console game. They have confirmed that Yukes is behind the game and reveals early alpha footage featuring Omega, Chris Jericho, and Hikaru Shida. It is announced the game will be for current and next gen consoles, but no release date was given. The early footage included the interesting match up of Omega vs. Shida.
After that was revealed that Aubrey is involved with the mobile gaming portion of AEW Games and revealed AEW General Manager, a game that will allow to sign talent and book shows, asking you to earn “ratings.” No release date was given, but it is confirmed that the game is a mobile game.
The final game revealed was AEW Casino: Double or Nothing. Cody revealed this game, after saying they wanted to give their fans something to play “right now.” While no footage was revealed and it was merely a trailer featuring AEW talent in a casino environment, the game’s release date was revealed for Winter 2020. A press release has more information on both games.
Two mobile games will be available even sooner for fans. AEW Casino: Double or Nothing is anticipated to launch this winter, and AEW Elite GM is anticipated to launch later in 2021. Developed by KamaGames, one of the fastest growing independent operators in the world, Double or Nothing will feature AEW-branded versions of slots, blackjack, poker and roulette, along with AEW music, sounds, videos, wrestler virtual avatars, gift packs and more.
Developed by Crystallized Games, AEW Elite GM is the evolution of the GM simulator genre, taking the strategic elements of simulation and fantasy games to create a competitive and engaging space for the wrestling community to take part in, incorporating the expanding AEW brand and serving as a celebration of wrestling as a whole. Fans take on the role of GM, designing a roster of wrestlers, setting up matches, and running the show to generate revenue, new fans and effects on wrestlers’ stamina and morale.
The final announcement was just an additional confirmation that Yukes is working with them on the game and they have brought in Hideyuki Iwashita, aka Geta, to work on the project. Iwashita was the Director for the popular WWF No Mercy game for the N64 and worked for AKI on the Def Jam games for previous gen consoles.
No release date was given for any game officially, but it seems like all games are well into development. In the meantime, the company also revealed you can purchase a shirt with the AEW Games logo available in their merchandise shop.
