WWE Considering MLB Stadium For New ThunderDome Location
We have recently reported that the WWE is looking at several different venues to move to this December with them being asked to vacate the Amway Center with the Orlando Magic set to begin their NBA season.
Though they are looking at several venues outside Florida, one name that seems to be floating around internally as a landing spot is Tropicana Field, home of MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays. The home of the defending American League Champions would give them a large venue, but this isn’t the finalized choice. Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio was one of the first to report this.
Spectrum Sports’ Jon Alba has noted that the venue isn’t the realm out of possiblity, listing size as a pro for when it wants to run larger events, but he has noted the facility would not be as high quality as their current home and he did note that the power has gone out multiple times at the venue during Rays games the last couple of years.
The WWE has internally floated around the idea they would like to do “something different” for the Royal Rumble in 2021 compared to what they’ve been doing, so a venue like Tropicana Field could be a good opening to utilize new things for the ThunderDome.
