WWE Faces Potential Setbacks At Possible New ThunderDome Location

WWE is still planning on their next move thanks to being made to leave the Amway Center so the Orlando Magic can begin their home schedule for the NBA season, but the company may be facing bigger problems with their potential new home.

The company has been taking a serious look at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, home of the Tampa Bay Rays. There are benefits, but there are several drawbacks as reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Florida is one of the few states WWE will have freedom to produce events with a live crowd, and the stadium can house 42,756 fans, but WWE won’t be able to fill those seats with COVID-19 restrictions limiting the crowds they can bring in.

WWE wants to bring fans back to their events, but they may wind up facing the same problem AEW has had continuously running Dynamite and their events at Daily’s Place in Jacksonville.

The negative is that after a few weeks just like AEW, they will be very limited in what they can draw and unless they are giving tickets away, 1,000 people and that’s generous after a few weeks with two shows per week, will look empty unless they let people in free or charge almost nothing. And even then it’ll get hard to have a crowd twice a week.

While WWE could bring in more fans for an event like the Royal Rumble, an event they want to do something different for, there are still many difficulties the company could face. As we reported earlier, Jon Alba reminded fans the Rays suffered power outages sometimes during Rays games during the season.
