Why Drew McIntyre Became WWE Champion
Drew McIntyre won the WWE Title on the go-home episode of Monday Night RAW after beating Randy Orton for the title. It seems WWE has a legitimate reason for the title changing hands.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer explained WWE’s reasoning for this last-minute title change. Ultimately, the company simply desired a heel vs face match at Survivor Series.
“They had nothing going on and they had already done a bunch of Randy Orton/ Drew McIntyre matches that Drew McIntyre kept winning, and to keep it going they had to have Randy Orton win one, so they did. In the end, I guess they could have held off until the pay-per-view, but I guess they wanted a babyface/heel dynamic in this match.”
He noted that Randy Orton vs Roman Reigns would have been a “nothing match” at Survivor Series as both Superstars were heels and people would have cheered for Roman in the end. This is something WWE did not want that currently.
