The WWE has received a lot of negative attention for the release of Zelina Vega. The release has attracted the attention of SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris and has only further earned the scrutiny of former Presidential candidate Andrew Yang.
Even though the story is being picked up by outside people and news sources, many if not all WWE stars have remained quiet. While many people have expressed their sadness over her release, none have touched the topic of her support of unionization.
On Wrestling Observer Radio, Vega was a topic, including how many have declined to comment on the matter. It was reported that some have backed Vega in private, but no one other than Paige has come out in her defense.
“The one thing is that ever since the thing happened with [Zelina Vega] a couple of days ago, Friday… with the exception of maybe Paige has anyone come to her defense publicly? I know privately people have backed her, and they have to me, but no one’s done it publicly and I never got the impression that they would. So, she’s kinda off on her island, or whatever.”
Meltzer did note that SAG-AFTRA is a powerful union but “they would all have to want it” to get them to step in. However, he did say “they all” want Andrew Yang to step in and “maybe that will happen.”
As we reported him talking about yesterday, no labor laws have to be changed for WWE’s practices to be stopped. Existing labor laws just have to be enforced. Whatever the situation is, it’s going to remain interesting going into 2021.
