Darby Allin Talks About Comparisons To Crow-Era Sting
Sting completely reinvented himself in the late 90s while changing his look and persona to a character based on Eric Draven from The Crow. With the silence and mystery that came around the change of persona, fans of WCW have started to remember this and draw comparisons to this iteration of Sting while speaking about AEW’s current TNT Champion Darby Allin.
In an interview with TV Insider, Allin talked about the comparisons and it turns out that while he sees and understands the comparisons, it wasn’t intentional.
My face paint just comes from my real life. That’s not really a character thing I try to rip off of anybody. I’ve always just liked the dark stuff. I’ve always been a fan of the gothic aesthetic. Just weird stuff. I’m flattered by [the comparison], it’s cool, but it’s definitely not what I’m thinking about while I’m doing it.
The comparisons are easy to see. The face paint, the silence, and Allin even surveys events from high level seats at Daily’s Place as opposed to the rafters Sting used to sit in. While he didn’t use Sting as a template, it certainly has helped fans create a relationship with his character.
