AEW had a surprise ending tonight when Will Hobbs attacked Cody Rhodes to end the show and reveal his alignment to Team Taz.
Hobbs had seemingly been set for a rivalry with Team Taz when Jon Moxley handpicked him to be his partner with Darby Allin against Team Taz & Lance Archer in a 6-man match that had to be canceled when Archer contracted COVID-19.
Hobbs continued his rivalry, often having the back against Allin with Brian Cage and Ricky Starks continued to bully and assault Allin, including coming to Darby and Cody’s aid at Full Gear when Team Taz tried to injure Allin and Rhodes after their hard fought match against one another for the TNT Championship.
Following the conclusion of tonight’s match, Team Taz continued the assault on Rhodes and Allin when Hobbs once more made the save, this time picking up Cage’s FTW Championship. After teasing he would want to take the title for himself, Hobbs blasted Rhodes with the title, signifying his acceptance of Taz’s offer. Taz had been trying to convince Hobbs for weeks to join Team Taz for weeks, only for him to join on tonight’s show.
While it seems Rhodes and Allin are outnumbered against the trio, there is still plenty of opportunities for the current and former TNT Champions to find a third partner. There is no shortage of Nightmare Family members for Rhodes to call on, though their next ally could still be a surprise.
