The Young Bucks Talk About How AEW Rushed Their Match Against FTR
A small criticism of AEW this year has been how soon they delivered the much anticipated Young Bucks/FTR match. What was once considered something we would see with months of build up happened only a couple of months after FTR’s debut for the company. While the match delivered in quality, many fans thought they would do more to build up the dream match.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Matt and Nick Jackson talked about this among a variety of topics and said that COVID-19 and the uncertainty of when things would go back to normal had Tony Khan make the call for the match to happen so soon.
“You don’t want to save everything especially in this pandemic era. We were trying to save things like the FTR match. We were trying to milk that until we got fans back into the building but at one point, we were like, we don’t know when the world is going to get back together. We can’t hold this anymore. Tony (Khan) said, ‘We are doing it. We have to do it.’ He booked it for Full Gear.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has certainly changed the way wrestling is presented and multiple things has caused changes in storyline and even how live events are put on. One of these will be remembered as how they presented the FTR/Bucks first match. Considering a rematch is almost certainly inevitable, perhaps the build up to that will be the build they want.
