UK Wrestling Promotions Could Welcome Fans Back As Of December 2nd

Yesterday the APPG Wrestling released a statement on twitter regarding their most recent response from Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport with regards to wrestling shows and practices.

The UK as a whole currently remains in full lockdown until the 2nd of December due to a recent rise in Corona Virus Cases. Following the 2nd of December the UK government is planning implement a strong tired system, which would allow some areas to return to some normality, this includes the wrestling industry.

As per the newest statement British Wrestling Promotions must adhere to the performance arts guidance; Arenas in Tier 1 are open to the public, but limited to 50% capacity or 4000 outdoors / 1000 indoors (whichever is lower) while those in Tier 2 are open to the public, but limited to 50% capacity or 2000 outdoors / 1000 indoors (Whichever is lower).

However safety concerns regarding safe operations during the pandemic have not been the APPG’s only concerns. One of the primary concerns of the APPG have been the safety of female performers in the wrestling industry, one of conditions of the Performance Arts guidance state that Safe back stage areas for Performers. Other Performance arts guidance from Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport;

*A one-way flow through buildings with floor markings.

*Participants and Visitors must maintain social distancing where possible.

*Front & Back of “house” Zones.

*Social Distancing in terms of “interacting” with the audience.

If Wrestling Promotions across the UK could adhere to the above practices on top of the previous equality pledges, British Wrestling, will be a far safer industry heading into 2021.

Many of the UK Wrestling promotions including Progress Wrestling, Attack Pro Wrestling, The North Wrestling, British Wrestling, World Association Wrestling had already made the decision not to return until 2021. So even with the restrictions being lifted on the 2nd December it is unlikely we’ll see many wrestling shows return to action this year, but 2021 should see the Brit Wres Scene come back bigger, better and safer than ever.
