Anna Jay’s AEW Dynamite Debut Against Shida Earlier This Year Was Just The 7th Pro Match Of Her Career
The AEW Women’s World Championship was on the line last week as Shida defended her title against The Dark Order’s number 99, Anna Jay. This was the second time these two have wrestled, but there is an interesting fact about their first meeting.
On the latest episode of AEW’s Unrestricted Podcast, Anna Jay joined Aubrey Edwards and Tony Schiavone. It was during their discussion that Aubrey revealed that her first meeting with Shida earlier this year on Dynamite was not only her TV debut, but that it was also only the seventh ever professional match of her career.
Aubrey Edwards – Today we’ve got an Anna Jay and of course I wanna start off with a congratulations you are a nominee for Pro Wrestling Illustrated’s Rookie of the Year for 2020.
Anna Jay – Shoot yes thank you, I was surprised. I was like whaaat? But yeah thank you. it’s exciting.
Aubrey Edwards – That’s super super awesome. So you made your Dynamite debut when we had the crazy Georgia shows, where it was like the all full day thing in a match to Shida. Which, if I remember correctly was like your seventh match ever.
Anna Jay – Yea it was.. and it was my like second match with AEW. I actually had the Dark match with Penelope before hand. Umm but yeah it was my seventh match in my professional wrestling career.
Despite not having many professional matches under her belt when she made her AEW debut, it didn’t take the company long to realize they had a future star in the making as it was announced shortly after that she had signed a deal with the company.
It wasn’t just AEW officials she impressed, as Anna Jay was quickly courted by the Dark Order before joining as Number 99. The sky appears to be the limit for this rookie of the year nominee.
