The APPG Wrestling Evidence Submission Deadline Has Now Passed
The APPG (All Party Political Group) Co-chaired by Alex Davies formed not long after the speaking out movement shone a light on a dark and seedy element hidden in the world of independent professional wrestling. Female talents from around the world, in particular the UK, started coming forward with their own personal horror stories from within an industry that has been running unregulated for several years.
On the 24th of September the APPG started an inquiry into the UK wrestling Industry often referred to as the Brit Wres scene. They started by sending a letter to parliament, as part of this enquiry they requested evidence and testimony that could be submitted from promotions and performers, there was also a deadline given for any written evidence to be sent in by the 27th of November.
Although that deadline has now passed for written evidence, there is still time for people to provide oral evidence although this also comes to an end in December, with APPG still urging people to come forward.
The APPG have also been chasing parliament for details regarding how promotion events should run during the pandemic as well as in the long term, they were also looking for further clarification of how the schools/academies should be run during the pandemic and beyond. On the 24th November they received a response with regards to shows being run in line with the performance arts guide line and that schools should run in accordance with grass root sports and gyms.
The Letter also stated that shows could start running as of the 2nd of December depending on the locations tier, although most promotions across the UK will likely hold off shows until next year, as such a number of UK promotions such as; Progress Wrestling, The North Wrestling (NCL), Attack Pro Wrestling, British Wrestling Revolution and others have made statements regarding waiting until 2021 to return to action. However even the early months of 2021 could be under question, with brand new promotion Wrestle Carnival having halted it’s plans for it’s debut show in January 2021 already.
The APPG of wrestling may have formed under darker circumstances but they are intent on leading the British Wrestling Scene to a much brighter future with many of top promotions doing everything they can to work with the group. Fans, Performers and Promotions will be looking forward to seeing the results and conclusions come from the evidence that has been submitted.
