WWE Wins Award For COVID-19 Awareness Campaign Same Day NXT Star Tests Positive For COVID-19

In what might be one of the most ironic awards given ever, the WWE has received an award in regards to spreading COVID-19 awareness.

Cynopsis gave out their Model D awards and WWE and Americares received an award for the best COVID-19 Awareness campaign. The partnership involved WWE and Americare’s Safety Steps campaign, a digital campaign encouraging kids and others to wear masks and do their part to stop the spread of COVID-19.

A video for the campaign featured Mustafa Ali, Lacey Evans, Drew McIntyre, and the now-released Zelina Vega encouraging others to wear masks and do their part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in addition to praising health care workers for their work in the treatment of the disease.

WWE took home several awards at this ceremony, including one about the WWE 24 documentary on Kofi Kingston, The Bump webseries, and Corey Graves’ After the Bell podcast.

The timing of this is quite interesting, considering a top NXT star recently tested positive for COVID-19 and the WWE’s much documented problems with the novel coronavirus and their black and gold brand.

WWE has had their share of issues with COVID-19, including how Vince McMahon was unaware how lax protocols had been until they were brought to his attention by Kevin Owens. The timing is interesting, but perhaps it’s not how many people the company had test positive but the message of the campaign is what matters. You can watch the PSA below.
