Pat Patterson Wanted WWE To Award The “Pat Patterson Cup” To Royal Rumble Winner
WWE Hall of Famer Pat Patterson passed away last week at the age of 79.
Patterson’s fingerprint is all over the wrestling business. He was the first-ever Intercontinental Champion, and is credited with creating the Royal Rumble, just to name a few of his accolades.
On a recent episode of “Sitting Ringside with David Penzar,” he was joined by Bertrand Herbert the co-author of Pat Patterson’s book, “Accepted: How The First Gay Superstar Changed WWE.”
During the interview, Herbert went on to reveal one of Pat Patterson’s last ideas, which was an interesting concept that would have seen the winner of the Royal Rumble receive a trophy/cup (like the NHL’s Stanley Cup) called “The Pat Patterson Cup.” The cup would have been presented to the winner, much like the Stanley Cup, and would have been large and able to hold champagne, and would have featured all the previous winners names on it.
“One of his last ideas he had on the (Royal) Rumble was for them to create the Pat Patterson Cup and give the trophy like the Stanley Cup to the winner. It would hold champagne and have all the winner’s names on it. I think that would be an amazing homage to Pat.”
