NXT Talent Returns To Former Name
WWE has a tendency to change a talent’s name, especially as they’re preparing them for television. Sometimes the change happens later on. Tehuti Miles made his television debut before suddenly becoming Ashante “Thee” Adonis. Ridge Holland even had an early appearance under his name Luke Menzies before returning to the brand under the new name.
And then there’s Brendan Vink.
Vink was best known on the independent scene in Australia and the UK as Elliot Sexton before getting signed by the WWE. Vink wound up making appearances on Raw and NXT under this name (his real one), including what looked to be the start of a push for him and Shane Thorne. The story went nowhere as Vink disappeared from television shortly after MVP took them under his wing and Thorne has since become Slapjack in Retribution.
A couple months ago, it was revealed WWE had trademarked the name Tony Modra and gave it to Vink as they prepared to repackage him, leading to a situation where former Australian Rules Footballer (and someone with the legal name) Tony Modra called out Vink and the WWE, stating he felt disrespected by the situation.
Whether it was them realizing there was an actual Tony Modra or just deciding they weren’t incredibly sold on the name, it seems that Vink has returned to his birth name in NXT and released a video explaining his “downfall” on the Raw roster. Parodying Dark Side of the Ring, Vink makes no reference of ever having been Tony Modra, and a check to the WWE’s Performance Center roster even once more lists him as Brendan Vink.
