Ever since Sting’s arrival, the comparisons and parallels to Darby Allin have never been more obvious than when Sting arrived in AEW. Even Sting has noted the comparisons when cutting promos since his arrival and took note of Darby sitting up in the stands away from everyone this week on Dynamite.
During Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer talked more about the plans for Sting in regards to Allin. It seems the long term goal is to ultimately use Sting to help elevate Darby to the next level.
“The whole thing was obviously to plant the idea that Sting and Darby Allin are together. I mean there were constant shots of Darby Allin while Sting’s out there and Sting’s pointing at Darby Allin and their mentality of this is they are going to use Sting to make Darby Allin into a bigger star.”
AEW will likely keep teasing this as they’re fine with long term storytelling when it comes to how they book things. The comparisons began long before Sting arrived in AEW and will no doubt play a major factor in how the angle plays out. While Allin has already become one of the company’s top stars, no doubt this could only serve to elevate him further.
