NXT Superstars Finding Mental Issues Due To Poor Booking On Main Roster
One of the biggest criticisms of WWE in recent history is their booking of top NXT talent once they arrive to the main roster. After achieving great success on the black and gold brand, they find themselves struggling on the main roster. While this isn’t always the case, it has certainly given fans something to be upset over and it’s also found other issues internally in the WWE.
Dave Meltzer talked about some of this on Wrestling Observer Radio. While many NXT talents are okay where they’re at for reasons like making more money than they had been before the move and working one day a week, there’s also the thoughts the main roster has more financial potential.
The fact that someone from NXT could achieve great heights only to struggle on the main roster also is something those talents consider, and Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio has talked about the mental strain and issues the company’s often poor booking of NXT alumni has caused some of those talents.
“There are people who would rather go to the main roster, but when they get to the main roster, that’s when they start having mental issues. The problem is with these guys that people don’t realize is that when they go up there and they’re booked to fail and they fail it really weighs on them. These are guys who have been nothing but successful for years and years and years at everything they’ve done and everything’s been a positive. Then all of a sudden, you start thinking and you start second-guessing yourself.”
“How many guys have you seen who are great, who are booked like sh*t and all of a sudden, I don’t want to say they start wrestling like sh*t, but they don’t start wrestling like when they were good. It’s because they start second-guessing themselves and they begin to think that maybe I’m not that good.”
Confidence is a big factor in professional wrestling. Confidence is needed in your ability to perform, and sometimes a lack of confidence can affect your in-ring work, your delivery of your character, and many other factors. WWE intentionally or not sabotaging their talents only does damage to them in the long term in addition to the company. If the talent can’t reach its full potential with them, the company has only done a disservice to their fans, the talent, and their bottom line.
