Former WWE Writer Takes Shot At Anonymous Sources

The internet wrestling news industry is like any other form of journalism. Besides reporting what we see, sources inside companies are often utilized to help gain extra insight into a story or even break news you wouldn’t normally get.

Twitter account Wrestle Votes has their own sources and is a usually reliable source of information sites report on. On Sunday, the account tweeted out that the creative team had been directed to come up with an idea for cash in of his Money In the Bank contract on Drew McIntyre. Their report revealed that their source told them “they all sucked.”

The tweet provoked a response from former WWE writer Brian Gewirtz, who mocked the tweet.

A fan responded to this tweet, reminding Gewirtz that the account had a history of being right and Gewirtz was quick to respond to the fan. Gewirtz said he issue didn’t stem with the account itself, it’s with the people who opted to become “sources” and leak information. Whether the information was blatantly false, a half truth, or the whole truth, Gewirtz wasn’t afraid to talk about how it negatively affected the work environment he had experience working in.

While a former head writer definitely has a perspective of how this can negatively impact his work, sources still drive the news industry and it can’t be helped sometime. While there’s no guarantee a leaked story from a source will change the course of things, perhaps companies like the WWE can use the early reactions to gauge if it’s a good idea to begin with.
