Update On Aleister Black’s Backstage Status
It’s been quite some time since we’ve seen Aleister Black on WWE television, and based on what we’ve heard, that might not change anytime soon.
The good news is that Black is not injured. He’s doing just fine in the health department. The bad news is the creative team no longer even brings him up in meetings anymore.
A new report from Ringside News has mentioned Black is just no longer being discussed creatively. Their source told them Black’s name is “never mentioned” when it comes to planning and meetings, a shame considering where he’s been on the card in NXT and for a good chunk of his time on the main roster to date.
There’s a theory that WWE is punishing Aleister as a result of Zelina Vega’s release and all her talk of unionizing had upset the company enough that he was dealing with the fallout because she’s no longer under contract. Their source told the website that wasn’t the case, as Black’s poor booking began before her termination.
Aleister Black is in the unfortunate position of being someone Vince McMahon doesn’t get, but Paul Heyman loved incredibly. Heyman’s removal as Executive Director of Raw affected numerous talents, Black being one of them. Heyman loved Black along with other talents like Apollo Crews, but their pushes died when Heyman lost his role. Prichard has little interest in building new talent, with it being said “Heyman had a vision of making new talent, and Bruce is not in the business of making new stars.”
Black and Crews had comfortable positions on Raw before Prichard took over, Crews even getting praise for his in-ring work during Heyman’s run. When Heyman lost his position, Crews dropped the title, moved to SmackDown and now “he’s a ghost.” Black also moved to SmackDown and has yet to be utilized.
