NXT Has Different Approach To Booking Compared To Raw And SmackDown
We’ve discussed often on this site the lack of long term booking for the WWE right now. Raw and SmackDown have no long term plans for their booking, but somewhere in the WWE bubble of programing that isn’t the same case.
This week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter talked about the difference between the booking for Raw, Smackdown, and NXT. The main roster shows are currently booked week to week with a day of re-writes (if they’re lucky), NXT has continued to present themselves differently as it is written with long term stories in mind over impulsive crash booking. Even with unexpected things like injury and COVID-19, the plans are laid out far in advance.
While Raw and Smackdown are famous for last-day rewrites and driving the writing team crazy, NXT is being written with the long-term booking in mind and there are almost never late changes the day of the show. And if there are, they are usually forced based on someone booked being pulled for COVID or other reasons.
With long term plans laid out, it certainly gives you the idea they know where they’re going for plans like Takeover or the New Year’s Evil special coming up. Whatever the case is, it’s definitely obvious NXT has worked and laid things out.
