Sting Talks Why He Didn’t Come To WWE Following Sale of WCW

When WWE first purchased WCW, they didn’t receive all the talent at the time. Most of the top talent WCW had were under contracts with Turner that left them able to sit at home and get paid. One of those talents was Sting.

Sting spoke about the WWE with AEW Unrestricted, talking about what happened when WWE first reached out to him after the purchase and after the Invasion angle it seems. The talks didn’t go anywhere, it seems, because WWE wanted more of a commitment than Sting wanted to give the company.

“After [WCW] ended we never did talk. There was never any discussion, at least not immediately after. It was, I don’t know maybe a year after [WCW closed] that Vince reached out and we had a conversation. Talking to Vince was always good. Then you get his group of his attorneys and my attorney and it all kinda falls apart. Long story short, I wasn’t willing to make the commitment that he wanted.”

Sting eventually made his way to WWE, and it seemed to be more on his terms than anyone else’s. While some people were hoping his arrival could have come sooner, he eventually found himself in the WWE and their Hall of Fame.
