Legendary Pro Wrestler Danny Hodge Passes Away
Professional wrestling legend Danny Hodge has passed away.
A former 7-time NWA Junior Heavyweight Champion, the Oklahoma native was always considered one of the greatest technical wrestlers to step into the ring. Hodge went undefeated in college, winning the 177-pound title in 1955-57 when Oklahoma was part of the Big 7. Hodge eventually represented the US at the Olympic Games, eventually winning the Silver Medal at the 1956 games in Melbourne.
Hodge was the main draw for the late Mike McGuirk as the Junior Heavyweight Champion and even ventured into the world of professional boxing, winning the 1958 Chicago Golden Gloves as a heavyweight. After going 17-0 with 12 KOs as an amateur, Hodge went pro and eventually retired from boxing in 1959.
Hodge’s granddaughter, Stacy Ewy Wilson, shared the news on Facebook earlier today.
Danny Hodge, my amazing Grandfather, passed away on Christmas Eve. To say I am heartbroken is an understatement. 😭 This man was my hero….my everything! I have so many great memories and am so truly blessed God gave us such a wonderful man to lead our family. I have never met anyone more thankful, humble and kind than my grandfather.
Christmas was his favorite time of year! This year while we are hurting…Grandpa is experiencing the ultimate Christmas with our God. I have no doubt that he will receive his “job well done”.
I love each of you and appreciate all of your kind words. You are welcome to share your memories or photo As Grandpa ALWAYS said… God Bless You! ❤️
(Donations can be made in his memory to the Perry Wrestling Moment Park.)
We at Bodyslam send condolences to Hodge’s family in this difficult time.
