One of the reasons Brodie Lee’s death has hit several people so hard has to do with the fact few people knew the former AEW TNT Champion was sick. It was a sudden announcement that has new details now unfolding.
Dave Meltzer from The Wrestling Observer has reported Lee had been hospitalized since the end of October with the non-COVID related lung illness back on Saturday. While it is unknown what that illness was, it was confirmed to be not related to COVID-19.
Lee’s wife Amanda did her best to keep everyone in the loop when it came to AEW as his condition deteriorated, but she also didn’t want the news out that he was sick. It was the reason AEW was evasive in answering questions on media calls involving Lee, some people referring to it as a “state secret” within the company.
“Jon’s wife pretty much told everyone in the company, but they didn’t want it out so it didn’t get out, what the situation was with his lugs not working. He had been hospitalized since the end of October.”
Much of what Meltzer reported lines up with what we exclusively reported shortly after his passing, a bit more on the elaboration of what his wife had initially told the public. Lee’s loss was sudden and tragic and we continue to mourn the loss of this outstanding talent.
