Under the influence of The Dark Order, many of the members traded their identities for numbers. Alex Reynolds and John Silver became 3 and 4, while Alan Angels became 5 and Preston Vance became 10.
In the middle of all that was Anna Jay, who became 99. 99 holds special significance to hockey fans, and it was how she got her number.
Revisiting Brodie Lee’s episode of AEW Unrestricted, Lee talked about how he had little creative input in the numbers Dark Order members were given, except for one. Anna Jay received the number based on his input, paying tribute to his love of hockey and hockey icon and Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky.
“Anna Jay was the only that I had a hand in. She’s 99 because Wayne Gretzky wore 99. He was ‘The Great One,’ so that was my nod to hockey. I was very proud of that. Nobody gets it. Nobody cares, except me.”
Anna Jay RT’ed TSN Wrestling tweeting out that quote, a reminder of the impact Brodie Lee had with the people he worked with. No doubt she is hoping to be The Great One tonight when she and Tay Conti meet Penelope Ford and Britt Baker.
