Wrestle Kingdom 15 Confirmed For Tonight, Precautionary Measures In Place

Wrestle Kingdom 15 is on.

After concerns the two day show could be postponed or canceled due to a spike in COVID-19 cases in Tokyo and the governor of the prefecture asking the national government to consider a lockdown, NJPW has taken even further steps to make sure the event will be safe.

As cases spiked, New Japan capped ticket sales for the event. Originally hoping for 20,000 in the venue that can hold up to 55,000 for events like Wrestle Kingdom, they capped attendance at 5,000 and stopped ticket sales on December 29th. Those 5,000 attendees will be asked to follow strict guidelines as well.

To help contact tracing and help mitigate the risk of infection, each seat in the Tokyo Dome will contain an NFC chip with a QR code. Attendees are being asked to make sure they scan the code and fill out the online form that will contain the date, seat number, and contact details in addition to the usual information to help with these risks.

Attendees are also being asked to download the Japanese governments COCOA contact tracing app to help as well. You can read New Japan’s English announcement regarding these steps here.

Kevin Kelly was recently telling people they would hold the event in an empty arena if they had to, but it seems like things are in place for them to hold the event in this limited capacity. Stay tuned to Bodyslam, who will have full coverage of this two-night event. Tonight’s Night One event will be headlined by a double title match between Kota Ibushi and Tetsuya Naito.
