Colt Cabana Reveals COVID-19 Canceled His Return To New Japan Pro Wrestling
One of the things people have talked about in the wake of the AEW/Impact Wrestling partnership is the desire to see AEW form a partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling. They’ve made several references to the company in recent weeks, and even Hiroshi Tanahashi appeared on Chris Jericho’s 30th anniversary show in video form. The biggest hope still comes from the fact AEW’s former World Champion Jon Moxley has remained the IWGP United States Champion despite not defending the title since before the COVID-19 pandemic.
It seems like AEW has one more person who can work for New Japan, and it might surprise you.
Well known wrestling journalist David Bixenspan tweeted out his desire to see the partnership happened so he could revisit a popular tag team between New Japan star Toru Yano and AEW star Colt Cabana. Cabana and Yano have been a popular comedic duo for the group and when Yano has visited for Ring of Honor at times, and his tweet actually got a response from Cabana who revealed some fun information.
My contract specifically says I can do NJPW. It was still the plan that got stopped with the pandemic 🙁
AEW has not been anywhere near as strict with their talent working for New Japan Pro Wrestling, as many people have said the door was left open for them by AEW, but this is the first vocal confirmation that a talent outside Moxley has the permission let alone that New Japan still had plans to use them. Here’s hoping that the COVID-19 pandemic comes to an end soon so we can see the reunion.
