Timothy Thatcher Injury Allegedly A Storyline
Last Night’s NXT New Year’s Evil event was supposed to feature a Fight Pit match between Timothy Thatcher and Tommaso Ciampa. During the course of the day, NXT’s Twitter account revealed that Timothy Thatcher had been injured and the match was postponed.
Dave Meltzer had tweeted Thatcher was injured prior to the video being posted, so the WWE’s announcement seemed to be a confirmation of the news reported earlier. It turns out that none of that was true at all. PWInsider has reported the injury to Thatcher is a work and Thatcher is perfectly fine. They reported the decision was to pull the match was because they simply chose to hold the match at a later date.
The announced Timothy Thatcher injury pushing his Fight Pit bout against Tommaso Ciampa is storyline. There was a decision made to push the Fight Pit back and this was the cover story.
WWE did reveal Thatcher’s injury was “minor,” allowing them to give him a quick recovery time if this is indeed all a storyline. While no date has been announced for the rescheduled Fight Pit, one would assume this could be moved to an event like TakeOver.
