This year’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic begins next week on NXT and it’s been revealed this year’s tournament is a 16-team tournament with the winner scheduled to receive a NXT Tag Team Title shot against current champions Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. While no date has been set for the match, 10 of the 16 teams involved have been announced.
Many of NXT’s top teams have been announced for the tournament, and a couple of makeshift teams have been revealed so far, and the list as of this past Wednesday is as follows.
- Jake Atlas & Isaiah “Swerve” Scott
- The Way (Johnny Gargano & Austin Theory)
- Grizzled Young Veterans (James Drake & Zack Gibson)
- The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole & Roderick Strong)
- Breezango
- Legado del Fantasma (Joaquin Wilde & Raul Mendoza)
- Imperium (Marcel Barthel & Fabian Aichner)
- Ever-Rise (Chase Parker & Matt Martel)
- Dark Maverick & Killian Dain
- Curt Stallion & August Grey
With 10 teams announced, this opens the door for more makeshift teams, especially with top singles stars, but it opens the door for the potential debut of one of the recent WWE signings, the Rascalz. Of course, the remaining six teams would just be speculation now. It remains to be seen. the tournament kicks off next week with Cole & Strong vs. Breezango and Ever-Rise against Grizzled Young Veterans.
