Speculation On Jay White’s Future
The talk in New Japan Pro Wrestling following Wrestle Kingdom and New Year’s Dash is the status of “Switchblade” Jay White.
The former IWGP Heavyweight Champion said in a post-match press conference following his Wrestle Kingdom loss to Kota Ibushi that he was done with the company following New Year’s Dash. The next night, White took the pinfall in a multi-man tag match involving CHAOS and the Bullet Club and was assisted to the back with no real storyline post-match. Now the speculation has begun whether or not this is a storyline or the signs White is on his way out the door.
The Super J-Cast podcast has announced many sources are indicating White may not re-sign with the company, where his contract is rumored to be over at the end of the month. They went on to add that WWE is making a strong play for Switchblade, but it’s a 50/50 situation. The podcast has broken several stories in the past, so this isn’t speculation to take lightly.
Obviously a free agent White would become one of the hottest free agents in the industry. White’s ascent to the top of the card since his return from excursion in 2017 gave NJPW a top gaijin star following the departure of many Bullet Club members, allowing him to stand out even further. At this point, the only one who knows White’s next move is White himself.
