Raven Reveals Reason He Had Heat With Vince McMahon
Before Raven became the personality and ECW star we know today, he had several other personas familiar to others. A run in WCW as Scotty Flamingo transitioned to a turn in the WWE in 1993 as Johnny Polo. Things didn’t work out for him in the company, leaving him to test the waters elsewhere and eventually becoming Raven.
During his first stint in the WWE, it seems like the thing that held him back wasn’t a lack of talent but heat with the wrong people. Speaking with the Scheduled For Two Falls podcast, Raven talked about how he had developed a close friendship with Shane McMahon, leading him to get heat with Vince and Linda McMahon, two people who can really influence your WWE career.
“Yeah that’s true. Me and Shane used to be really tight but we drifted apart. He’d go out with me every night. Big heat with Linda and Vince. The boys thought I was kissing ass for my career but it actually killed my career, giving me heat.”
It probably didn’t help those were the early days of Raven’s substance abuse issues either. Raven remains one of the most underutilized talents the company has ever had under their umbrella, and at least now we know why that may be. Sometimes it doesn’t pay to cross the boss.
