WWE is starting to prepare for their original programming in India, with WWE announcing their Superstar Spectacle on January 26th.
While the show is designed to feature talent from India as they prepare to launch a NXT: India brand, they have recently confirmed stars from Raw, SmackDown, and NXT will be on the special, alongside Indian performers. They also confirmed it will air on Sony Ten 1, Sony Ten 3, and Sony MAX.
They have announced the special will take place in the ThunderDome, also confirming they are not shooting the event in India. Names announced are Rey Mysterio, Charlotte Flair, AJ Styles, Bayley, The New Day, Shinsuke Nakamura, Cesaro, Dolph Ziggler, Robert Roode, and Ricochet, along with Ric Flair.
WWE has a huge following in India, touting themselves as the most watched sports properties in the country. The WWE’s press release also hails India as #1 in WWE YouTube viewers and #1 in WWE Facebook followers.
While this is not the launch for NXT India, this is confirmed as a special event. It’s still possible they could make the announcement for the brand on the show, but that is pure speculation at this point.
