New Japan Cup Coming This March
NJPW have announced that the New Japan Cup will be held in March, last year’s tournament was held in the Summer due to NJPW being forced to postpone the tournament due to the global pandemic, this year sees the cup return to its usual Spring date. The Cup is due to kick off on March the 5th and is NJPW biggest single elimination tournament on the their annual Calender, the winner of the tournament wins a shot at the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion at Dominion.
NJPW press release Statement;
“It’s the biggest single elimination tournament of the NJPW calendar, and after 2020 saw New Japan Cup pushed to the summer, 2021 sees the tournament return to its spring slot. Just one day after NJPW celebrates its 49th anniversary in the fabled Budokan Hall, action will begin in Korakuen Hall on Friday March 5, before we head to Ota-ku on March 6, and then around the country, with events culminating on March 20 and 21. These final matches will see New Japan Pro-Wrestling action hit Miyagi’s Xebio Arena Sendai for the very first time!”

Last years New Japan Cup saw Evil come out as the winner, he went on to betray Tetsuya Naito and Los Ingobernables de Japon, joining Bullet Club, he would go on to defeat Testsuya Naitio for the IWGP Championships.
