Backstage News On Absent NXT Star From Women’s Dusty Classic
The brackets and teams were announced for the first Women’s Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic today and one team came as a shock.
Marina Shafir is teaming with Zoey Stark, the former Lacey Ryan who was just signed to the company. It surprised many people as most would have expected Shafir to be teamed with her fellow Four Horsewoman of MMA partner, Jessamyn Duke. The duo were paired often during their time on screen with Shayna Baszler, so it came to as a surprise to not see them as a team. We now know why.
Fightful Select has reported that Jessamyn Duke is focusing on her new role as a content creator for UpUpDownDown, Xavier Woods’ YouTube channel the WWE has partnered with. Their report also noted Duke was a full-time streamer when she was signed by the WWE and it has now transitioned into her creating digital content for the company full time. It was also said she preferred this role over wrestling during the course of the pandemic.
They also noted that Shafir was always planned to enter the tournament with someone else, leading to her partnership with Ryan. As far as Duke’s future in the ring, there are reportedly no plans for Duke to wrestle or figure into NXT creative plans as she continues to work on the channel.
She has not appeared in an in-ring capacity since a brief appearance on Raw for Raw Underground last year.
