Rey Mysterio’s Gear Maker Talks About The Honor Of Making Dominik’s Gear
Rey Mysterio’s wrestling gear is iconic. Whether it’s his comic book inspired gear for big events, or just the way his mask looks, people know Rey’s mask when they see it. Most people don’t know Mysterio’s gear comes from one man.
Masahiro Hayashi has made Mysterio’s gear for almost his entire career and now the legacy has been passed as Hayashi is now doing the gear for Rey’s son Dominik. In one of the first ever interviews Hayashi has ever given, he spoke to the All Real Wrestling Podcast about the legacy of going from creating his gear to his son’s.
“Around these couple of years sometimes we talked about Dominik’s debut outfit yes but, suddenly Rey asked me what the new outfit for Dominik should look like, that was around June or July in this year (2020) it was a lot of pressure for me, really big pressure. Of course I knew him when he was a baby so it’s very amazing for me. I have a son that’s the same age as Dominik. Yes they are friends so it’s really big pressure for our first outfit. I wanted him to put on the mask but Dominik and Rey said he doesn’t need a mask right now so I created the hoodie with the Falcon and the wings but, someday I believe Dominik will start to wear the mask .”
Hayashi has made gear for other wrestlers, the most notable outside the Mysterios currently being New Japan star Taji Ishimori. For more on what he had to say about his start in gear making, his favorite gear he’s ever made for Rey Mysterio, or what he’d like to do before retiring, you can watch the interview below.
