Supernatural or wacky storylines and characters have been part of wrestling for a long time. When they work they can be really fun to enjoy and become fan favorites like the Boogieman. But when is type of content doesn’t work it can be really bad. Case and point, Alexa Bliss and The Fiend.
The Fiend is quite the character with the Dr. Jekyll & Mr.Hyde inspiration all over it. The Fiend doesn’t work in a wrestling context, the character has interesting creative aspects, but WWE and Bray haven’t realized they are jumping the shark with the character.
When you put The Fiend on a wrestling context the character looks out of place. The match The Fiend had with Seth Rollins in Hell In A Cell was the perfect example of this. The red light, the giant mallot and the stupid finish to that match ended up ruining the concept of a Hell In A Cell match for a lot of people (Including myself).
The pairing of Alexa Bliss and Bray/The Fiend doesn’t work. It gives the wrong impression the fact Bray Wyatt brainwashed Alexa into becoming a little girl (outfit included). The duo don’t have chemistry and all their firefly fun house segments have been unwatchable.
The storylines with The Fiend make no sense. If you want to understand them you need to read really extended Twitter threads or Reddit post to try to get a glimpse of understanding of his “lore”.
Wrestlers that get involved in storylines with The Fiend end up looking like geeks and serves them no favors. Asuka just recently started feuding with Alexa Bliss and by proxy The Fiend. Asuka so far, has been made to look weak against Alexa and afraid of her “powers”, while Alexa pretty much no-sells Asuka’s entire offense. WWE is making their RAW women’s champion look weak in favor of Alexa and The Fiend.
Randy Orton has been involved in a feud with The Joker and Harley Quinn wannabes and so far the storyline has been straight up garbage. Orton burned The Fiend to a crisp and in retaliation Alexa use her “powers” and burned Orton’s face with a fireball. The following week, Orton wore a Destroyer-esque mask with some questionable makeup and to follow this, they had the next week Orton appear on RAW with no mask with some of the worst makeup ever, instead of looking like a burned victim, Orton looked like a person with ketchup all over their face.
The pair seem to be quite popular on Reddit in particular and by the look of things The Fiend and Alexa Bliss are favorites to win this year’s editions of the men’s and women’s of The Royal Rumble. The Road to WrestleMania will be quite the agonizing trip for sure with these two characters.
