Last week’s AEW Dynamite saw Cody Rhodes take on Pretty Peter Avalon, and despite many people believing it should’ve been a one sided contest, it wasn’t. Avalon snuck in a low blow and almost got the win, and then got far more offense than anyone had expected him to get. While Cody has always tried to make sure everyone he faces gets put over even in defeat, it certainly left a few people upset.
On this week’s Dynamite, Cody Rhodes revealed Arn Anderson chewed him out for going long against Avalon, saying his coach told him he didn’t take the match seriously enough. On Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that wasn’t just a storyline thing, many people had things to say to Cody following that match.
“I’ll bet you JR chewed him out. Do you know how many people wanted to chew him out after that match? Oh my god.”
Cody’s intentions were noble, obviously, but perhaps Avalon was the wrong person to give that much offense to on Dynamite. With a showdown with Shaq and Jade Cargill seemingly on the horizon at AEW Revolution, Rhodes needs to look as strong as possible.
