The Potential Repercussions Of A Ronda Rousey Surprise Royal Rumble Victory
One of the biggest stories surrounding this year’s Royal Rumble is whether or not it will mark the return of Ronda Rousey. The former WWE Women’s Champion hasn’t been seen since WrestleMania 35 after losing in the main event to Becky Lynch in a triple threat match that also included Charlotte Flair. Since then, we’ve seen Ronda Rousey training for a return, though many signs point to her not being back for tonight’s show.
However, on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer also discussed the possibility of what would happen if Ronda did appear and won the whole thing. Unlike the men in the WWE, the women have almost no part time stars and it could lead to some heat and anger backstage, due to Rousey having not competed in the WWE in quite some time.
“Ronda was training though, I do know that. She still may be at WrestleMania. So with Ronda, here’s the negative. Ronda can come into the Royal Rumble and be a surprise but unless she’s gonna win, I would say no way. Now if she’s going to win, yes, yes. then do it. She can still work WrestleMania and shoot an angle with somebody without winning the Royal Rumble; because people will resent her for winning the Royal Rumble because she’s not been there.”
The WWE is no stranger to returning stars winning the Royal Rumble, and obviously there could definitely be resentment should Rousey win and maybe even some backlash. However, tonight starts the road to WrestleMania and they will certainly want a lot of star power on it. And even if she does appear, it’s obvious she won’t have a lot of ring rust.
